He They I We 02:21
If I were you, mother, I would lift myself and look look for the longest view If I were you, mother, I would see everything the ordinary and fine the love and the longing If I were you if I were you If I were you, mother, I would swim in everything the depths and the shallows in the light and the lightness If I were you if I were you And if I were you I’d be much better so much better I would be the best the best I could imagine the best I could imagine If I were you if I were you If I were you if I were you I would rest

about

THE FINAL HOURS is a response to the art work of Myuran Sukumaran, an Australian man who was executed on 29 April 2015 by the Indonesian Government after being found guilty of smuggling heroin.

The original song sketches were created by singer-songwriter Pete Lyon and fiction writer/librettist Nigel Featherstone during a single day in 2018 - the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in Canberra had invited them to be surrounded by Sukumaran's art work, which was being exhibited under the title 'Another Day in Paradise'.

Over the course of the following year, and keeping in mind the paintings of a man who had much more living to do, and more art to offer the world and contributions to make, Lyon & Featherstone developed the songs into 'secular hymns', through which listeners might reflect - directly or indirectly - on the issues Sukumaran's art raises. The songs were then recorded using a simple musical pallet of acoustic guitar and piano, with imperfections embraced, before being professionally mixed and mastered.

All proceeds will be donated to an Australian art-in-prison program.
